Man, you wouldn’t believe what I got into today. I decided to tackle smoothing out some rough concrete edges in my garage. I’ve been meaning to fix those up for ages, so I figured, why not now? I remembered seeing this thing called a “rubbing brick” online, and it seemed like just the tool for the job.
So, off I went to the local hardware store, feeling like a real DIY pro. I found the rubbing bricks in the masonry section, grabbed one, and headed back home, ready to get my hands dirty. I got back, and the first thing I did was to take a good look at the concrete. It was pretty rough in some spots, with these ugly bumps and uneven spots from when they first poured it. Time to smooth things out.

I started by wetting the concrete surface a little bit. I read somewhere online that it helps keep the dust down and makes the brick work a bit smoother. Then, I took the rubbing brick, held it firmly, and started rubbing it back and forth over the rough spots. It felt a bit awkward at first, like trying to dance with two left feet, but I quickly got the hang of it. The brick had this gritty surface that felt like it was really eating away at the concrete.
- First pass: I went over the roughest areas first, focusing on the high spots and bumps. The brick made this grinding noise as it worked, and I could see the concrete dust starting to fly, even with the water. Good thing I had my safety glasses on!
- Second pass: After the first pass, I could already see a big difference. The surface was way smoother. But it wasn’t perfect yet, so I went over it again, this time with a bit more pressure and in a circular motion. I wanted to blend the edges and make sure everything was nice and even.
- Rinse and repeat: I kept at it, wetting the surface again when it got too dry and rubbing away until I was happy with the result. It took some elbow grease, let me tell you, but it was worth it. The concrete started to look like a whole new surface.
After a couple of hours of rubbing, rinsing, and checking my work, I finally called it a day. My arms were a bit tired, but man, the concrete looked so much better. It was smooth, even, and way nicer to walk on. I even managed to clean up some old stains and spots that had been bugging me for years. Plus, there are no more of those sharp edges and bumps, perfect!
The whole thing was a bit of a workout, but honestly, it was pretty satisfying. Who knew a simple brick could make such a difference? I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s like I’ve got a brand-new garage floor, all thanks to a little bit of sweat and a rubbing brick. I might even tackle the patio next. We’ll see how my arms feel tomorrow!
