Today, I wanted to share my recent project of finding the perfect clay bricks for my garden renovation. It was quite the journey, let me tell you!
I started by hitting up a few online marketplaces. There’s this one called Gumtree where people sell all sorts of stuff, and I figured it was worth a shot. I found a few listings for clay bricks, and some of them were actually pretty good deals. The best part was it’s all local, so I could potentially just drive over and pick them up. I love that!

Next, I went to those big home improvement stores. You know the ones, like TradePoint. They had a decent selection, but honestly, nothing really stood out. Plus, I always feel a bit overwhelmed in those places, with all the aisles and options. But I still carefully checked them one by one.
Then, I remembered this website, Brickhunter, that a friend told me about. They claimed to have over 4,000 types of bricks! I was skeptical at first, but I was amazed by their selection. They had all sorts of colors, textures, and styles. I spent hours just browsing and comparing, it was almost too much choice! I spent a whole afternoon browsing through this website.
I also checked out some specialty brick suppliers. They had some really unique and high-quality stuff. The problem is, the prices were a bit steep. However, there’s this one place that had some “spot deals,” which were basically overstocked items at a discount. I saw one deal that was 37% off! That got my attention. I was tempted, but I wanted to see all my options first. If I can get this offer, that could be really perfect!
After doing all this research, I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of what was out there. It made me think about why clay bricks are so popular in the first place. They just have this classic, timeless look that I love. And they’re durable, so they’ll last for years. But the guy at the store told me that clay bricks are a bit more expensive than other types because they use more material and are harder to make. Also, there is a difference between clay and mud. I am not an expert, but it seems to me that mud is more like a mixture of different things, and clay is more pure.
My Considerations
- Price: I didn’t want to break the bank, but I also wanted good quality.
- Style: I wanted something that would match the aesthetic of my garden. I was thinking of something with a bit of an old-world charm, like those Tudor or Victorian bricks.
- Availability: I needed to find something that was readily available and that I could get delivered or pick up easily.
In the end, I narrowed it down to a few options. I’m still deciding, but I’m leaning towards those discounted bricks from the specialty supplier. They’re just so beautiful, and the price is right. Also, I talked to the supplier. They are from Ibstock, and this brand seems popular.
This whole experience has been quite the learning process. I never realized how much goes into choosing the right brick! Hopefully, my little adventure here can help some of you out there who might be looking for clay bricks for your own projects.
