Well, let me tell ya ’bout them red and black bricks, ya know? Them things, they ain’t just for lookin’ at, no sirree. They build houses, walls, all sorts of stuff. I seen ’em used for patios too, fancy like.
Now, the red ones, them’s the most common, ain’t they? They got that warm, earthy color, like the dirt after a good rain. I heard tell they make ’em outta clay, dig it up outta the ground and bake it ’til it’s hard as a rock. Takes a lot of work, I reckon, all that diggin’ and bakin’. And the stuff they use to bake ’em, like coal and wood, that ain’t cheap no more. Makes them bricks cost more too, wouldn’t ya know it?
You can get them red bricks in all sorts of sizes, big and small. Some are skinny, some are fat, some are long, some are short. It all depends on what you’re buildin’, I guess. I seen some that are real smooth, like they been polished, and others that are rough, like they just came outta the ground. They got different names too, all fancy sounding, but a brick’s a brick to me, long as it holds up good.
Now, them black bricks, them’s somethin’ else. You don’t see ’em as much as the red ones. They got a real dark, kinda mysterious look to ’em. I ain’t sure how they make ’em so black, maybe they put somethin’ in the clay, or maybe they bake ’em different. Whatever they do, it makes ’em stand out, that’s for sure. I seen ’em used on fancy houses, sometimes just a few here and there to make it look nice. They cost more too, I betcha.
- Red bricks are common, like dirt color.
- Black bricks are fancy looking, more expensive.
- Bricks come in different sizes and shapes.
You can buy these bricks at them big stores, like Home Depot and Lowe’s. They got piles and piles of ’em, all stacked up neat. You can buy ’em by the piece, or by the pallet, if you need a whole bunch. They sell other stuff too, like that thin brick stuff, looks like a brick but it’s real thin, for makin’ things look pretty, I guess. They call it “thin brick sheets” and such, sounds like somethin’ you put on a bed, but it’s for walls, go figure.
Now, if you’re gonna build somethin’ with bricks, you gotta know what you’re doin’. You gotta have a good foundation, and you gotta lay them bricks straight and level. Otherwise, your wall’s gonna be all crooked, and it might even fall down. I seen it happen, ain’t pretty. You need that strong stuff too, what they call “mortar,” to stick them bricks together. And you gotta let it dry good before you start puttin’ weight on it. It’s hard work, but it’s worth it when you see that wall standin’ tall and strong.
I heard tell some bricks are stronger than others too. They measure it somehow, somethin’ about “compression strength” they call it. The stronger the brick, the more weight it can hold up. That’s important if you’re buildin’ somethin’ big, like a house or a wall. You don’t want it crumblin’ down on ya, do ya? So you gotta get good bricks, strong ones that’ll last.
Anyways, that’s about all I know about red and black bricks. They’re good for buildin’, they come in different colors and sizes, and you gotta know what you’re doin’ if you’re gonna use ’em. And that’s the truth, plain and simple.
